Space Station No.9

Launched in 2105, Space Station No.9 is a mini artificial satellite planned to be orbiting Earth for 101 years. Its home planet, not yet known. With modules including communication and habitation systems, an automated teleportation machine, a shuttle bay, and an art studio, Space Station No.9 serves as an exploration outpost exchanging information with its spaceship SSN9-K “Kaleidoscope.”

SSN9-K “Kaleidoscope” is Space Station No.9’s space exploration vessel. The small spaceship travels in interstellar space, explores the unknown, and captures images of different planets and creatures in space.

The registry number found on its engine appears to be “SSN9-K…” with some worn-out letters. The crew member hence gave it the nickname “Kaleidoscope.” A word starts with K and means “observer of beautiful forms” derived from the Ancient Greek words.

My name is Kai, and I am from Hong Kong. I’m currently the only crew member on board Space Station No.9. It is so mini that the habitation systems could only provide for a crew of no more than two.

On the space station, I operate to receive encoded messages sent by SSN9-K Kaleidoscope, process the data, and keep a visual logbook of its deep space exploration. When back on Earth, I leave traces of SSN9-K’s existence here or there. I also built this website to present some parts of the logbook. These are the intricate parts that I visualized by animation in the traditional hand-drawn frame-by-frame way but on digital paper.
